Every year, the SFIA releases this participation topline summary that features data from the largest single source sports, fitness and leisure activity participation study in the country. We track participation in 120 sports, recreation & fitness activities. This is the industry’s essential reference document for sports participation.

If there is only one report that you read every year from the SFIA it is this one.  The participation topline presents a very detailed look at the participation growth trends for 120 different sports and activities.  The data is presented in easy to read charts that feature one and 4 year variances.

Highlights from the 2018 Report:

  • 2017 Inactivity rates slightly increased from last year from 81.4 Million to 82.4 Million.
  • Baseball (12.9%), Basketball (14.1%), Field Hockey (15.9%) and Soccer (Indoor)(13.2%) all saw significant one year increases in casual participation.
  • Cross-Training Style Workouts, Rowing Machines, and Kettlebells all showed growth in 2017.
